Thanks for thinking about giving us your time. Before anything else: this starts with a conversation, not a form.
You don't need experience, a qualification or a particular background. You need to be over 18, reliable, level-headed, and willing to treat everyone you meet on a shift with respect.
We'd rather you knew exactly what you were signing up for, so we meet everyone in person before they get anywhere near a patrol — and you're free to walk away at any point in the process.
It has to be the right fit both ways. If it isn't, we'll say so kindly, and so should you.

Shifts a month
Evenings, mostly weekends. We build the rota around your life, not the other way round.

Minimum age
Over 18, happy to be DBS checked, and ready to accept the Volunteer Declaration before your first shift.

Radio and kit are provided and funded by donations. You bring comfortable shoes.

First message to first patrol
Roughly two weeks — a face-to-face meet, the Patrol Academy, then out with the group.
Roles
Not everyone has to be on the street.
Tell us which of these sounds like you when you message — most people start on patrol, but the patrol only runs because of everything around it.
Team Leader
Experienced members who brief the group, hold the radio and make the call on the night.
First aid trained
Already hold a first aid qualification? Tell us — it's useful on shift, though never expected.
Comms & social
Photos, posts and updates that keep Liverpool in the loop about what we're doing.
Fundraising
Quizzes, raffles, grant bids and business partnerships. Daytime hours, no patrol required.
Event support
Community days, school and group talks, stalls. Step in when we need an extra pair of hands.
How joining works
Five stages, from your first message to your first shift — usually around two weeks, depending on when we can meet and how quickly your checks come back.

We'll reply, answer whatever you want to ask, and be honest about what the role actually involves.

Meet the team in person
If it sounds like a fit on both sides, we'll invite you to come and meet us. It's a conversation, not an interview panel — a chance to:
- Put faces to the people you'd be walking with
- Hear how a real shift runs, start to finish
- Ask the awkward questions
- Understand what we expect in terms of reliability and conduct
- Decide, without pressure, whether it's for you
Meeting first means nobody joins with the wrong idea of what the role is.

Get your portal invitation
If we both want to go ahead, we'll email you an invitation to set up your Patrol Portal account. That's where the paperwork side happens — all of it digital, none of it on a clipboard.
In the portal you'll:
- Set your password and complete your profile and next-of-kin details
- Submit your DBS details for checking
- Read and accept the Volunteer Declaration
- Start the Patrol Academy

Work through the Patrol Academy
Six short modules, roughly half an hour each, done whenever suits you. They exist so that every single person on a shift has the same understanding of:
- Why the patrol exists and how we behave
- Safeguarding — spotting risk and reporting it properly
- How a patrol is briefed, grouped and run
- Radio and reporting standards
- Your legal position, and the limits of it
- Emergency first aid awareness
- Looking after yourself as well as everyone else

Walk your first patrol
Academy done and checks cleared, your portal unlocks fully and you can put your name down for shifts. From then on you'll have:
- Upcoming patrols you can accept or decline in a tap
- The Patrol Community feed for news and announcements
- Events, refresher sessions and extra training
- Guidance, policies and useful contacts in one place
- Recognition for the hours you put in
You'll never be put out on a route on your own, on your first night or your fiftieth.
